    Overview

Fatima has a talent for herbs and folk charms, but that knowledge gets her nowhere when she is ripped from her own world and dropped onto the Mongolian steppe in the 13th century. The Mongol Empire is on the march, and the nomadic tribes she encounters view her strange practices with deep suspicion. She cannot summon fireballs or levitate. What she can do is brew medicines, read the land, and keep her head down. That may not sound like much, but in a landscape where a wrong step means frostbite or a raiding party, it is the difference between life and death.

Tomato Soup, the pen name of the Japanese creator behind Tenmaku no Ja Dougal, launched the series on Akita Shoten's Souffle digital platform in September 2021. The story unfolds in slow, deliberate chapters that dwell on the textures of daily survival: finding water, treating wounds, negotiating with chieftains who would rather burn a witch than feed her. There are no grand magic battles. The tension comes from the constant threat of exposure and the quiet power of a woman who knows more than she lets on. Collected tankobon volumes run about 200 pages each, and the series remains ongoing as of 2026.

Critics have praised the manga for its refusal to romanticize the Mongol era. The artwork captures the brutal beauty of the steppe, with wide panels of empty sky and wind-scoured grass. Fatima herself is no chosen one; she is pragmatic, scarred, and often afraid. That groundedness has made the series a quiet standout in the isekai genre, which usually leans toward wish-fulfillment. An anime adaptation by Science Saru is set to premiere in July 2026, bringing Fatima's harsh world to a wider audience.
