A Couple of Cuckoos

Nagi Umino discovers his life is a lie when he learns he was swapped at birth with another infant. His biological parents, the wealthy Amano family, arrive to claim him and immediately present a marriage contract for their daughter, Erika. Nagi accepts this arrangement not out of desire but because the Amanos are his only remaining link to his origins, even though Erika has spent her life raised by a different family entirely.

Miki Yoshikawa launched the series in Weekly Shōnen Magazine on January 29, 2020, following a one-shot release in September 2019. The narrative tracks the couple as they navigate high school while hiding the truth about their swapped identities from everyone around them. Erika maintains her status as a popular influencer while secretly struggling with the gap between her public persona and her private reality.

The story uses the brood parasite behavior of cuckoo birds as a central metaphor for the protagonists' situation where each child lives within the wrong nest. By 2025, the Japanese edition has expanded to 33 tankōbon volumes. Kodansha Comics began releasing the English translation on January 12, 2021, making the work accessible to international audiences alongside its anime adaptation. [edit]
