A Bride's Story
Kaoru Mori
Overview
Kaoru Mori crafted a gentle historical epic in A Bride's Story, a manga that transports readers to the 19th-century Silk Road. The series focuses on young brides from various cultures as they navigate new lives, marriages, and communities in remote villages. Rather than centering on grand political events or dramatic battles, the story finds magic in daily routines, food preparation, and the quiet bonds formed between neighbors. Each chapter introduces a different couple, allowing Mori to explore distinct traditions while maintaining a cohesive sense of place and time. Mori began serializing this work in Enterbrain's Harta magazine in October 2008. The run continued through November 2020 before moving to Kadokawa's Aokishi magazine in June 2021. Yen Press brought the series to North America, releasing all 15 collected volumes by December 2025. Readers praised the detailed artwork and respectful storytelling, which earned the series the Prix Intergénérations at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2012 and the Manga Taishō Award in 2014.
