Mayil lives with her family in Kurumbur, a small village where everyone knows everyone. She is at that age where childhood slips away and the world starts looking at her differently. Her mother Kuruvammal keeps a close watch, aware of the dangers that lurk for a pretty girl in a conservative society.

Chappani, her cousin, has loved her silently for years. He walks with a limp, and the villagers mock him, but his heart is pure. He works hard, helps Mayil's family, and never asks for anything in return. Parattai, on the other hand, is the village bully. He struts around with his gang, collects protection money, and treats women like trophies. When he sees Mayil, he decides she will be his.

Mayil is not interested in either man. She dreams of something bigger, something beyond the dusty lanes and gossipy aunties. When a city doctor arrives to set up a temporary clinic, he seems like an answer to her prayers. He is handsome, speaks smoothly, and wears clean clothes. He notices Mayil and flatters her, making her feel special. She falls for him hard, ignoring the warnings from Chappani and her mother.

The doctor takes advantage of her innocence. He promises marriage, sleeps with her, and then leaves without a word. Mayil is shattered. Rumors spread through the village like wildfire. Her reputation is destroyed, and her family faces shame. Parattai sees this as his chance. He taunts Mayil and Chappani, threatening to take her by force. Chappani, despite his limp, stands firm, refusing to let Parattai near her.

The tension builds as Parattai becomes more aggressive. He beats up Chappani and publicly humiliates Mayil. The village elders side with Parattai, saying Mayil brought this on herself.
