The thing that gets under their skin isn't shouting back. An 18-year-old kept his cool in New Hampshire while a grown man got aggressive at the polls, and that composure apparently stings worse than any reaction they could have gotten. Fear is the whole point of this, keeping people home, shrinking the crowd. Voting is the counterexample. Every ballot cast makes the number of people who won't be scared off a little bigger, so show up.
