Different types of hormones explained

    by Writersroom Boardwalk: Science

Sixteen hormones, sixteen job titles. Dopamine gets called the happy one, cortisol the stress one, oxytocin the love one. Melatonin is on sleep duty, adrenaline on energy, endorphins on pain relief. Serotonin is the feel-good pick, while hunger belongs to ghrelin and fullness to leptin. Thyroxine runs metabolism, somatotropin runs growth, calcitonin handles bone growth. Fat burning is glucagon's lane, blood sugar is insulin's. ADH keeps water in balance, PTH does the same for calcium. All of them are chemical messengers, which is how the body keeps mood, energy, growth and general balance in check.
