Mike Brown on Warriors lessons for Knicks

    by Yetundejones: Mike Brown

Mike Brown is pulling from his Warriors days to talk about rocky stretches with the Knicks. Golden State went 1-2 right after winning that first title, and from ownership to the GM to the staff to the players, the belief never wavered that they were better than what they were putting on tape. So the plan was to keep grinding, stay the course, tweak what needed tweaking. Brown's point: catching a thumping sometimes isn't the worst thing for you.

Mike, you've been on a coaching staff that's repeated before in Golden State. I'm wondering that first season after you guys repeated, or after you guys won that first chip, you were 1-2, I believe you lost on ring night, you won one, and then you lost one. Is there anything that you can take from how you guys handled that to weather the storm and then go on to repeat the champions that you maybe can apply here during the stretch where you guys are going through a rocky start? Well, you know, the one thing that I do know is nobody ever panicked, you know. From ownership to the GM to the coaching staff on down through the players, we truly felt we were better than what we were playing, and it is what it is. We were going to keep trying to get better, and we knew there was a lot of games. And at that point in the season, to go through getting thumped in the head sometimes might not be all bad. You know, so I think that's the biggest thing is to know that, hey, you got a game plan and you want to stay the course and make some tweaks here and tweaks there if needed.
