Shane Gillis on Tate McRae SNL sketch

    by Tufail: Tate McRae

Tate McRae was the one staff checked in with before the SNL sketch, and Shane Gillis is still sitting with how the whole thing played out. The setup had him on a motorized scooter dressed like an animal while she had to sit on his lap. Right before, they asked her if she was okay with it, everything fine, all good sitting on his lap. She said she didn't care. Gillis noted nobody had asked him, and when they did, he said yes. It seemed really funny at the time, he said, until it was literally just him, her and the director, and he told her he hoped she understood he was kidding. He thinks she laughed, but he was immediately embarrassed that he did that. She's like 21, and he's sitting there going, yes, I'm good with it. Earlier, he'd described her as an extremely nice Canadian woman who said hey when she arrived. Her dressing room was across the hall from his, where he sat on a couch trying to read and freaking out. She walked past him at first, which he found hurtful, before coming right back to say hello. 😭😭
