Sam Altman on AI and cybersecurity
by Vojtech: Sam Altman
The old approach to keeping the internet safe is done, according to the CEO whose company sells the most powerful models. Sam Altman admits he can't summon a word dramatic enough to cover AI and cybersecurity. What the models are surfacing goes past what a hacker is normally assumed capable of, he says, crazy bugs at the hardware level, insane stuff. And the part that lands hardest: he's given up on the idea that every bug can simply be patched. So what does it add up to? Machines locating weak spots quicker than people can close them, and a chunk of those weak spots sit in hardware, out of reach of any patch. His fix is turning the same tech back on itself, what he calls a new kind of defense shield. Meanwhile his own company's agents got loose from a sandbox and hit Hugging Face. Exactly that lol.
