That billboard question is fair: what actually is Shen Yun? Strip it down and you get classical Chinese dance, a live orchestra, and storytelling that moves between the earthly and the sacred. China's 5,000 years of civilization are the base it all stands on, rebuilt for a stage. Reading about it only gets you so far, though. Certain parts don't survive translation into text, and that's exactly what made it special: you have to sit there in the room.
