Situations like this can happen when someone gets too close or unintentionally blocks a gorilla's path, and the gesture may simply be a warning to move. In Japan, an aquarium worker was cleaning when a large sea turtle suddenly came over to interrupt him. He gently guided her away, but she kept returning. Eventually, he used his floor brush to gently scratch her shell, and she seemed to love it. Even after being sent back into the water, she kept following him around for more scratches, until he finally gave her another one.
