Based16z Whop economic freedom advice
The concept of the smartest and most motivated individuals in the world trying to figure out their own things to do is central here, creating an ever-changing and ever-evolving meta that extends even beyond the crypto sector. Since viable internet opportunities change so frequently and are difficult to predict, guessing what will be the coolest one is a task I'm probably too old to handle correctly. Maybe building Roblox games is the current high-potential activity right now with some kids going insane on that specific platform, but the point remains that you have to find something interesting to you. The speaker has been spending a lot of time right now working on Whop because it really embodies the set of options for someone with the goal of achieving things in an economic sense. That drive often stems from wanting to get your own economic freedom after feeling somewhat hamstrung by family finances where parents might say hey you can't do this or we're not going to support this or we can't afford this or whatever. If you have that as a goal then it's good to not go into a traditional job and try to do something on the internet for yourself instead, focusing on building equity in it or building skill in it or building specific knowledge. While success in crypto trading is possible with passion, I wouldn't tell someone to just go into crypto trading since it isn't universally recommended for everyone starting from nothing. Sustained effort requires genuine interest because you can make it doing anything as long as you love it, but the work must be self-directed, novel, hard to explain to older generations, and enjoyable. Ideal projects are those where you're going to have fun with them while navigating a landscape where the meta is constantly shifting.

What do you think the next generation people should be doing right now? I'm spending a lot of time right now working on WAP. I think that's really interesting and also embodies a lot of how you might describe the set of options for someone with the goal of achieving things in an economic sense, which I think is a goal for a lot of people and was definitely a goal for me to give my economic freedom because I always felt somewhat hamstrung by it in the sense that my parents could be like, hey, you can't do this. we're not going to support this or we can't afford this or whatever. And so that was like a big, and so if you, if you have that as a goal, then I think it's good to be like, not go into a traditional job and try to do something on the internet for, for yourself and build equity in it or build skill in it or build specific knowledge. But like what that is, is just so changing. And I'm probably too old even to understand what the coolest one is. Like maybe it's building Roblox games now, right? Like there's some kids going insane on that. And I think like part of the, the, the WAP thesis is just like, Hey, the smartest and most motivated people in the world are going to try to figure out their own things to do. And it's going to be ever changing and like an ever evolving meta. So it's even beyond crypto. Like I wouldn't tell someone, Hey, go into crypto trading. Like if you had a real passion for that, I'm sure you could still do well, um, with starting from, from nothing, you know, and you can do it, you can make it do anything as long as you love it. But I would say it's like, yeah, you got to work on something that is, um, interesting to you. That's working for yourself that's probably a little bit new and is hard to explain to old people. Hard to explain to old people. And that you're going to have fun with.
