Michael Jackson Gary homecoming 1979

by Zimmermann 054: Michael Jackson

The Indiana crowd felt pure homecoming electricity during the Jacksons' 1979 Destiny Tour stop at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. The venue was completely sold out, and the Mayor officially declared it Jackson Day to honor the brothers returning to their hometown of Gary. Michael spoke to a local reporter about how wonderful it felt to be back, noting that the people and the fact that it's our home made the concert meaningful for making people happy. He quoted directly: "This is our home… the people and the fact that it's our home and we're doing a concert and making people happy." The performance featured a J5 medley, and the atmosphere matched the high energy of the Off the Wall era.
