Michael Jackson in Perth Australia Telethon

by Zimmermann 054: Michael Jackson

The business deal that let Michael Jackson buy the ATV catalogue, including the Beatles songs owned by Robert Holmes a Court, also brought him to Perth, Australia forty-one years prior to the post date. That arrival was specifically for Channel 7's Telethon, creating a moment where a major music catalog purchase linked directly to a children's charity broadcast. During the visit, he met with the Little Telethon Stars and received keys to the city of Perth before stopping by Princess Margaret Hospital to see children who were hospitalized there. His participation helped push the Telethon total to a record 2.8 million, a move described as powerful for connecting such a significant commercial agreement with a charitable cause.
