The part of Michael's BAD World Tour stop in Landover, Maryland in 1988 that still gets me isn't the choreography. Midway through Smooth Criminal, a dancer's spit accessory popped loose, and Michael caught it on the fly and flicked it away. His pace and energy stayed exactly where they were. Nothing in his face or body read as a stumble, and the control was so total that the catch came off like it was written into the routine. He turned a wardrobe slip into something that looked deliberate 🐐
