KOSMOS 2612 and ICEYE-X36 satellite approach

by Not A Newt: Satellites

so the question floating around is whether a space war is actually kicking off, and the setup is this: KOSMOS 2612, a Russian military satellite, has parked itself 135 meters from ICEYE-X36, the Finnish spy satellite relaying tracking data to Ukraine. keep the same maneuvering going and that gap narrows to 45 meters on Monday. nothing like this has happened before, at least not with one satellite potentially going after another. the guesses on what comes next range from a laser burning out the camera to electronic warfare to a straight-up ramming. a video is out there showing the two of them sitting that close together. hard to look at that and not wonder what happens if it keeps closing.
