Bonnie Blue on marriage as sex work
by Blake Tif: Bonnie Blue
Bonnie Blue argues that married women are sex workers because they trade sex for money and can't walk away without risking abandonment. She accepts the label of slut but rejects it for herself while applying the sex worker title to wives who have longer shifts than she does. The core issue is vulnerability: a woman with a rich husband could lose everything if he leaves, whereas she has the choice to stop working. Bonnie notes that fixating on future plans makes people dismiss everyday happiness and forget to live in the present moment.

Nothing. I, you know, people call me a slut, slag, whatever, and I accept that. And people call me a sex worker because I am. Whereas if I was to say, look, you've married your husband purely for his money. In return, you give him sex. They'd be like, no, I'm not a sex worker. If they stopped giving him sex, he's going to leave and go elsewhere. But they can't, they need, they need his money. So is it also the vulnerability? Like you, I mean, I think at this point you've earned so much money. Yeah. You're set up for life, I would guess. Whereas I suppose a woman with a rich husband at any moment, he could just pull the rug. They're on contract. Yeah. They've got a longer shift than I have, but I could stop. They can't. Do you think you ever will stop? Possibly, but I don't have a plan anymore. And for most people, that sounds really stressful. But I used to have the most structured life. I knew exactly what I'd be doing on a Tuesday midday, where'd we get lunch from? And now I don't have a plan because Because sometimes when you have a plan, you become so fixated on the future, what one year looks like, what two years, five years down the line looks like, and then you dismiss everyday happiness. You become so fixated on what the future looks like. You forget to live your life and live in this moment in time.
