Based16z portfolio strategy
by Tufail: Polymarket
Based16z is rethinking how he treats his portfolio, describing his holdings almost always as bullets rather than just assets. The strategy involves keeping 70% of the portfolio in short-term treasuries to preserve capital, leaving only the remaining 30% available for high-conviction bets that might fail completely. This setup ensures that even if the entire big bets book blows up, there is still a massive chunk left to try again. He literally just keeps all short-term treasuries like 70% of his portfolio and then takes big bets on things where he has really strong conviction with everything else. Beyond the current allocation, Based16z is considering allocating funds to real estate soon just because he has had so many annoyances renting.

Yeah, I mean, the way I've always done this, which is going to sound so stupid, and, you know, people are going to be a financial advisor proxy, you're like, what? I literally just keep all short-term treasuries, like 70% of my portfolio, and then I'll just take big bets on things that I have really strong conviction with everything else. And the way that that works is if I blow up the entire big bets book, then I still have 70% left to try again. And that's why I've kind of looked at, I've looked at my portfolio almost always as bullets. uh i've kind of been looking at like uh maybe allocating a little bit toward real estate soon just because i've i've had so much annoyances renting
