What sticks with me about the 1996 HIStory World Tour stop in Seoul, South Korea isn't the spectacle. It's that someone in the crowd got up onto a rising crane while Michael Jackson was singing Earth Song, and rather than halt everything, he pulled the person into an embrace to keep them from falling. Only after that did he go on and see the song through to the end. Thirty years on, I read it as instinct more than anything else: one person kept safe, the music still carrying everyone else. That's just who he was.
