Install one open-source proxy from GitHub, 37K stars, and Claude Code stops questioning who it's talking to. It just assumes Anthropic is on the other end. Meanwhile your requests are quietly landing on NVIDIA NIM, OpenRouter, Gemini, DeepSeek, or a local model running on your own machine. The split is simple: cheap free models pick up the easy work, Opus gets called in when a task actually needs muscle.
