Tim Walz signs Minnesota law
On May 24, 2023, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed legislation that fundamentally altered the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. The shift is stark: medical professionals are no longer mandated to do everything possible to keep a baby alive after an abortion occurs. Instead, providing comfort care and simply waiting for death now counts as sufficient treatment. Reporting requirements for these incidents have been abolished entirely, and sanctions for non-compliance have been stripped away. Direct killing by hand remains illegal, yet allowing a child to die by refusing assistance has become permissible. There is a specific irony in watching the women associated with Governor Walz smile and clap at this signing. It highlights a double standard where those advocating for denying survival to unborn infants were themselves born. Voters who survived birth are supporting the right to deny that same survival to others.
