A'ja Wilson 5th MVP celebration

    by Yetundejones: A'ja Wilson

A'ja Wilson just secured her fifth MVP award, adding to a resume that already includes three championships with the Las Vegas Aces. The emotional weight of this moment stems from where she started: at age 15, her primary dream wasn't about specific accolades like being a five-time MVP or a three-time champion, but simply surviving this world. She wrote those goals down as a young girl and checked them off, which explains why she cried more intensely for this particular trophy. Sitting surrounded by silver WNBA trophies while playing basketball every single day, she knows exactly how much it means to never take that opportunity for granted.

You know, when you dream as a young girl, you dream so big, and you write your goals out, and you just never imagined that you were able to just check them off. And when you're able to check them off, small wins, big wins, it truly means a lot. And so I think that's why I cried a little bit harder on this one, because 15-year-old Asha wasn't sitting up here dreaming about being a five-time MVP. She wasn't dreaming about being a three-time champion. She was just dreaming about surviving this world. And so for me to sit up here surrounded by these trophies and to be able to play the game of basketball every single day, it just means a little bit more to me, and it's something that I won't take for granted.
