Pokimane grieving Mimi

    by Jeremias: Pokimane

Mimi was Pokimane's cat for eight years and losing her has left Pokimane shaken, with no wish to do much of anything. Some moments feel okay, others feel like a nightmare. A trip booked months ago is still on the calendar, and friends, mom, and a therapist all pushed against canceling. Getting on that plane is the last thing Pokimane wants. What would Mimi want? Pokimane thinks she'd want happiness, even wonders if that's a strange thought. Fear of being judged while grieving is there too. Grief for a pet counts, pets are babies too

I really don't want to get on this plane, but my mom is forcing me to. I've had zero desire to do anything since losing my baby of eight years, Mimi. You know, it was one of those moments that leaves you so shaken up that you feel like there was life before it happened and life after. Sometimes I feel okay. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a nightmare. I'd honestly prefer not to leave my bed for a long time, but I've had this trip planned for months. It doesn't feel right to go. It doesn't feel right not to go. So I left the decision in the hands of the ones who know me best. My friends, my mom, and my therapist. And they all insisted that I don't cancel. In a weird way, I know Mimi would want me to go and to be happy. Is it weird to think about what your cat would want for you? On top of that, the fear of people judging however I grieve. But to be honest, all I can do is be true to myself, cry when I need to, and try to be happy when I can. If you've ever lost a pet, just know you're not alone in your sadness. Our pets are our babies, too. They can matter just as much as people do.
