Sister Bliss on Faithless Insomnia Bebe Rexha
Thirty years of saying no to every Insomnia request, and the answer only flipped when Bebe Rexha came along. Sister Bliss says the collab gave Faithless a shot at a genuine pop star, and she rates Rexha as clever with a great mind and some enormous songs behind her. Rexha landed on Champion Sound, wrote Dollars and Dimes over Insomnia samples, and the fit made sense: Albanian heritage, growing up on Faithless, leaving her label to go independent, and an epiphany about music as a healing force. Faithless don't usually go after big stars, Dido was in the group before she blew up. But Rexha wanted Insomnia handed to a different generation, feeling like no dance hit had landed since maybe a Calvin Harris record. RTBF TIP!

It's interesting because every 10 minutes we get people saying, can we use Insomnia? Can we do a cover version? Can we use the music? Can we? And we say no to everyone. You're back in the charts with New Religion with Bibi Orexa. How did that collaboration happen? Oh, and that was a crazy one. She collaborated on our album Champion Sound that we just put out and she wanted to use a bit of insomnia and she'd written a new song over it because her and her family they have Albanian heritage and they grew up with our music and she'd always loved it and she was very lost she'd left her label she was striking out on her own as an independent artist and she had this big epiphany about music being this healing power and something that was going to take her from the dark times to the light and so it was interesting because every 10 minutes we get people saying can we use insomnia can we do a cover version can we use the music can we you know redo it in some way and we say no to everyone but with bb it was an opportunity to work with a real pop star like that's not our avenue we work with people who happen to have become crazy successful like dido but she wasn't a huge pop star she was in faithless first you know and we reach out to people who we love their voices or they have an agenda and bb's clever You know, she's got a great mind and she's written some enormous songs actually to collaborate with her on a new track, Dollars and Dimes, which is on the album. That was a really big moment. And she just was crazy about using insomnia. And she had this feeling. She said, I feel there's been no dance hit for maybe a Calvin Harris record, maybe, but something. She just had this burning desire to bring it to a different generation. So in the end, we made this agreement and she collaborated with us. So yeah, it was a crazy feeling because of course, it's for people who were never even born when Faithless started.
