Trump on autonomous submarines

    by Jolyon: Donald Trump

Daniyal's write-up centers on Trump's take on autonomous submarines, and the reasoning is more personal than strategic. He's on board with the technology, but not with the idea of climbing into one himself. His honesty about it: he isn't sure he'd have the nerve to spend much time underwater in a sub, and he'd rather stay up on the surface. Fair enough. Getting shut inside a metal tube far below the water isn't most people's dream job. The autonomous version, though, he likes. Down there on its own, no one aboard.

The President and I love the idea of the autonomous sub. Whoever heard of autonomous? It just makes sense because I wouldn't I'm not sure that I would have the courage to go into submarines too much. You guys love them. But me, I'd rather be floating on the sea. So I like the idea of an autonomous sub all down there by itself. But just as accurate. I mean, it's incredible what they can do. I saw some.
