James Corbett on the conspiracy theorist label

    by Gigliola: Tech

Guilty as charged is how James Corbett answers the question of whether he sees himself as a conspiracy theorist. Strip the label down to its plain meaning and it describes a person who theorizes about conspiracies, nothing more. What he actually takes issue with is the baggage the word carries once it leaves someone's mouth. #Tech

Would you consider yourself a conspiracy theorist? Yes. So I have a video in my archives that I believe is entitled I am a conspiracy theorist, specifically to be provocative, specifically because, again, having been around this space for a couple of decades, I see the way people tap dance and do, you know, limbo moves to try to get around that. Oh, you know, I'm not a conspiracy theorist. Whatever. No. OK. let's take the literal, actual meaning of the word conspiracy theorist. It is a literal phrase that literally means someone who theorizes about conspiracies. Well, if that's the case, then sure. Yeah, absolutely. Guilty as charged. But of course, that's not what it means in the minds of the public. No, conspiracy theorist means you are a crazy, tinfoil hat wearing, crazy person who should be shunned from polite society. That is what we have internalized as the meaning.
