Bill Murray in Zombieland (2009)
by Capucine · old hollywood: Bill Murray
The funniest part of ZOMBIELAND (2009) might be how fast it's over. Bill Murray shows up as himself, decides the smart play in an apocalypse is to slap on some zombie makeup, and that plan is gloriously dumb. What makes it work is the movie barely lets him enjoy it, killing him off almost right away, and the speed is what turns a silly bit into something genuinely funny. An idea that dumb shouldn't land, yet the quick exit is exactly why it does.

What? Oh, what? So Columbus is the scared one? Yeah, he's like a little bunny. I'll get him. What's this? No! No, no, it's okay. It's okay. I got him. Is that how you say hello? Where you come from? Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I can't believe I shot Bill Murray. Mr. Murray. I just... Bill, I think, now. Bill? Yeah? I don't think we're gonna be able to stitch this. That's still tender. You think you might pull through? No. If it means anything now, I am so sorry. It's just instinctive. It was my bad. I was never a very good practical joker. So do you have any regrets? Garfield, maybe. I'm sorry, he just gets me. But it still is sad.
