Ramaphosa announces GBV measures

Eleven women killed in Ekurhuleni since July is a national crisis, President Ramaphosa says, and the government has owned up to falling short on its obligations here. A national investigation is running, with arrests made, persons of interest identified, and forensic evidence being pursued. Then the four measures: audits of cases, DNA backlogs cleared, safety audits done, and tougher action on alcohol-related violence. GBV police units, courts, Thuthuzela Care Centres and victim services are getting more resources. Every quarter there will be a progress report. And on missing persons, Ramaphosa urged people to report immediately, there is no 24-hour waiting period
