Ben and Nev on book destruction
by Gigliola: artificial intelligence
Ben iambenleavitt and Nev nevscape talked about rare books getting bought for AI training only to be destroyed afterward. They noted that historical conquerors burned books first before doing anything else. For Nev, the definition of history is so broad it includes a random guide to an unvisited national park.

The recent books being destroyed to train AI models, like really, like it didn't, it just struck some sort of chord for me where like you're buying rare books and then you're training a model, one model, not multiple models, like technically one model. And then the information is being destroyed forever. It doesn't matter how rare that is. Like someone, some person in the world, multiple people, if it's a book, have decided to put their life energy, their thoughts and ideas into this thing. whether it's advertising or a guide to a local park, or like often these things, that was the argument. It's like, oh, it's often like little guides to like this national park that no one cares about. Well, that is history. That could be relevant at some point. Like there's a bunch of different things where it's like, it's just getting absorbed into this brain. Yeah, the books thing, that's like, it's kind of funny, cause not funny at all. But if you go through history, like that was a common thing Whenever they take over a country or a piece of land, right? What's the first thing they do? They burn the books. And so it's like, that's kind of not even kind of happening. It theoretically is happening, which is crazy. If you enjoyed this, be sure to hit that like button and follow to stay up to date with what's going on in the world and everything else memes and markets. Peace.
