AJ Spitz white privilege line

    by Gigliola: Tech

AJ Spitz noticed something about how his videos get used. People from the South keep reaching out, saying they're the friend in the group who sort of gets these topics but never had the words for them, and then they take his lines and pass them to their own people. The white privilege line hit hardest, the one where being white doesn't mean your life isn't hard, but it's not the reason that it is. That's the bar they reach for when they're trying to say something nobody ever taught them how to say.

quite a few people from the South reach out to me and they're like that one friend or whatever in their group who like kind of understands these things, but doesn't really have the language. And I noticed that these videos, I'll say something that they'll really hit them. And they're like, I use that to communicate that to, you know, my group of peoples. And one of them for that particular video, one line that seemed to really stick with people is that the white privilege line where I say that being white, it doesn't mean your life isn't hard, but it's not the reason that it is. You know what I mean? And that really stuck. It seemed to stick with a lot of folks. And that was a bar for sure. They use that line when they're trying to articulate these things that were really just not taught to articulate at all.
