Professor Joohyung Kim's crew at the Kinetic Intelligent Machine Lab inside UIUC just swapped the old two-leg Ringbot for a four-legged beast called Ringbot Quad. The Star Wars-inspired rig ditched the standard drivetrain entirely, replacing it with four independent driving modules hooked directly to each leg so the thing can grip and move without relying on traditional mechanics.

The Star Wars-inspired monocycle RingBot has received a new upgrade. Earlier, the robot had only two legs, but now the new version comes with four legs and is called RingBot Quad. It is developed by Professor Joo Young Kim and his team at the Kinetic Intelligent Machine Lab at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Instead of a traditional drivetrain, it uses four independent driving modules, each connected to a leg.
