EngineAI PM-01 crosses monkey bars

    by Terrymiller: ETH Zurich

A humanoid robot just crossed monkey bars on its own, no human input required. ETH Zurich researchers showed the EngineAI PM-01 using a head-mounted solid-state LiDAR sensor and a memory-based neural network to identify bars and plan actions. The system segments the movement into jumping up, swinging between bars, and jumping down, with passive hooks ensuring reliable contact. It succeeded in 14 of 15 attempts across three distinct monkey-bar configurations at the Robotic Systems Lab's Legged Robotics facility. #ETHZurich

Researchers at ETH Zurich have demonstrated a humanoid robot that can autonomously traverse monkey bars. Using a head-mounted solid-state LiDAR sensor and a neural network with memory, the robot detects the bars and plans its movements without human guidance. The system divides the task into jumping up, swinging between bars, and jumping down, while passive hooks help maintain reliable contact.
