Newsom on 2028 race if Harris runs
by Jolyon: Gavin Newsom
Gov. Newsom was asked point blank whether he'd sit out the 2028 race. His answer: "Of course not. Why would I? I wouldn't do that to her." If Kamala Harris gets in, he says he's not running, and he called a hypothetical Newsom vs. Harris primary "mutually assured destruction." He added that such a matchup would be a gift for every other candidate. The counter-argument writes itself: she's run twice, he's never run once. Honestly, I'm not sure which of them would be worse. #GavinNewsom

Yeah. Kamala. Yeah. I don't know if she runs, but we'll see. I know she's called around. Yeah. But I wouldn't run if she ran. If she runs, you will not? Of course not. Why would I? I wouldn't do that to her. I wouldn't do it to me. Why would I? I wouldn't do that to you. I wouldn't waste everyone's time. Who needs that? What do you mean? That doesn't even make sense to me. I just, I wouldn't. No, I wouldn't. First of all, electorally, it's a gift from God for everybody else. They enjoy the hell out of it. Mutual assured destruction. It services no greater good. I mean you do whatever you want. I don't care. But like counter argument would be like you know she had a shot. Yeah. And you've never run and she's run twice. Yeah. I mean that would be the approach to the campaign certainly. That would be the case you'd make. Pretty good one actually.
