Tom Holland admits he didn't land a Star Wars part, though he insists the real reason wasn't just that he laughed his way out of the room. He recalls being handed a script where his line was simply to get back to the Falcon, but the scene required an actress to deliver robot voice lines with total seriousness opposite him. The moment she committed to the character and started speaking in that tone, Holland couldn't keep it together. He remembers thinking there was no way anyone would actually read those lines like that without it feeling ridiculous. When she did it again after he questioned if she was really going to do it, she confirmed the robot voice was essential for the character. That's when the giggles took over completely because he just couldn't stop laughing at the sheer commitment she brought to the droid role. While he jokes about how funny it was, he also notes that John Boyega was honestly a better fit for the part anyway.

I don't think that's the reason why I didn't get the role. I think John Boyega was just better for the role than me. But I just remember thinking, there's no way this lady's gonna read the robot's lines opposite me just because that would be ridiculous. And I don't remember what my line was, but it was, let's get back to the Falcon. And then this lady, bless her, would sit there with full commitment and she just was like, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop. And I just remember thinking, the first time she did it, I went, oh, that's funny. Oh, wow. All right, brilliant. We'll do it again. We'll do it again. Sorry. Did the line again. Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop. And I remember sort of saying, like, you're not actually going to do that, right? She was like, well, yeah, the robot's part of the scene. He's the character. It's R2-D2 or C3-P. I don't know. Yeah, I just got the giggles. Because you know when you realize you've got something so wrong? Yeah. I just couldn't stop laughing.
