In another universe, a single bullet completely changed Marvel history. Back in 1940, a Nazi spy assassinated Dr. Abraham Erskine, the only person who knew the super soldier formula. That same shot also killed a young soldier named Ben Parker. With those two deaths, the future was rewritten. Steve Rogers never became Captain America because the serum was lost forever. Instead, the government launched Project Iron Man, a primitive armored suit that had to be permanently connected to its wearer through painful surgery. Steve volunteered, survived the brutal procedure, and became this world's Iron Man, eventually helping win World War II. But Ben Parker's death changed another life just as much. Without Uncle Ben to raise him or teach him responsibility, Peter Parker grew up reckless and angry, getting into fights and stealing cars. During a school trip, Peter and his friends stole a military jeep and drove into the desert. When it ran out of fuel, Peter wandered into a gamma bomb testing zone just as the weapon exploded. He survived the blast, but when his friends confronted him afterward, he transformed into the Hulk and went on a rampage. The shock caused Aunt May to suffer a fatal heart attack, forcing Peter to flee. The government brought Steve Rogers out of retirement and sent Iron Man to stop him but outside the hospital where May was dying Peter lost control once again The Hulk overwhelmed Iron Man and killed Steve Rogers before disappearing without a trace Years later Reed Richards launched a space mission with Ben Grimm Sue Storm and Johnny Storm, but the rocket was sabotaged and exploded, killing everyone except Reed. He later became the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and assembled Tony Stark, Doctor Strange, and Bruce Banner, who blamed himself because the gamma bomb that transformed Peter is his invention. While searching the blast site for a cure, Banner was bitten by a radioactive spider becoming this universe's Spider-Man. Then everything got worse when Galactus arrived to consume Earth. After the military was wiped out, Reed sent a message to every hero and villain alive, calling them to make one final stand. Tony Stark answered in the Iron Man armor built to honor Steve Rogers, and deep in the wilderness, Peter heard the call too. He became the Hulk and charged at Galactus alone, enduring blast after blast of the power cosmic before finally falling in battle. Watching Peter sacrifice himself for a world that had only feared him, the Silver Surfer turned against Galactus and destroyed the machine that would have consumed Earth, giving his own life in the process. In the end, Aunt May stands at Peter's grave beside Steve Rogers' resting place, where two men whose destinies were completely changed still ended their lives as heroes.
