Shehbaz Sharif on water treaties
Water sustains millions of lives, nourishes land, and secures future generations across the region. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasizes that this vital resource must never be weaponized or used as an instrument of coercion. It cannot be exploited to gain political advantage by any nation. Treaties governing shared waters are binding international commitments that stand firm against being discarded for political convenience. These agreements must be fulfilled unconditionally in both letter and spirit to ensure permanent peace in South Asia, a key part of the SCO.

Excellencies, water is the lifeblood of our region. It sustains millions of lives, nourishes our lands and secures the very future of our coming generations. It must never be weaponized. It cannot be used as an instrument of coercion, nor can it ever be exploited for political leverage. The treaties governing our shared waters are solemn binding international commitments. They are not matters of political conveniences to be cast aside at your will. They must be honoured unconditionally in both letter and spirit.
