Young Bruce Wayne watches his parents get murdered, and instead of freezing in fear, he chases the killer into the darkness. But before he can reach him, a Green Lantern ring appears out of nowhere, choosing Bruce and welcoming him into the Green Lantern course. Fueled by rage, Bruce tracks down the man responsible, Joe Chill, and orders the ring to kill him. The ring refuses, bound by its no-kill rule, but Bruce's sheer willpower overrides it, and he brutally erases Chill from existence. After getting his revenge, Bruce tries to do the impossible, bring his parents back. But when they return as lifeless, twisted corpses, the reality breaks him, and he flies off. Bruce becomes a terrifying version of a hero, wiping out criminals without hesitation. When Commissioner Gordon confronts him about what he did to Penguin, literally dragging him into space and letting debris tear him apart, Bruce doesn't even flinch. Gordon argues that this isn't justice, that real justice means letting the system handle it. Then, he reveals he knows the truth. Bruce Wayne is behind the mask. Without a second thought, Bruce tells him his daughter will grow up without a father, just like he did, and kills him on the spot. Soon after, the Green Lantern Corps arrives to stop him, demanding he surrender the ring. Instead, Bruce slaughters every single one of them. Even when a Guardian begs for mercy, Bruce shows none, ripping his head clean off. Then, taking it even further, he enters a Green Lantern power battery and absorbs its energy, evolving into something far more dangerous. He renames himself the Dawnbreaker. And with that transformation, the entire universe is swallowed in darkness. And in that endless void, there's only one other presence left. The Batman who laughs, watching it all unfold.
