Tokyo sewage river overflow

tokyo uses a combined sewer system where sewage and rainwater share the same pipes. when heavy rains cause an overflow, the setup is designed to discharge that mix into rivers. strong rains this week flushed sewage into the water again. during extreme events, apartments with bayside views are called poop side views instead. japan surely could have found a better solution for this infrastructure.
