Ron DeSantis Florida Communism Curriculum

    by Pavellim: Ron DeSantis

Florida students will be required to study the truth about communism starting in sixth grade each year. Governor Ron DeSantis formulated this requirement and signed the legislation back in 2024. The expanded curriculum created by the Florida Department of Education is debuting this year. It covers the Soviet Union, Maoist China, Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, and the fall of the Maduro regime. The Florida Board of Education voted to add the capture of Nicolas Maduro as a historical consequence for students. Many lessons point to the dangers of communism, including how socialism can lead to a communist regime rising to power. Teachers at Aubrey Rogers High School say they have always taught communism but are now required by law to teach a specific curriculum. The social studies coordinator for the Collier County School District says the lessons help provide historical context. Just last week the Democrat Socialists of America publicly praised Fidel Castro. DeSantis fired back saying the DSA may try to make Castro out to be a hero but Florida students know better. A senior whose family fled Cuba stated that the curriculum helps students appreciate their country and understand American freedoms. Florida children will know the difference between freedom and tyranny.
