Benny Blanco opened up on the Creativo Podcast about why he turned toward Latin music after growing bored with pop. He explained that the genre allows for pushing boundaries in ways other styles don't, describing his favorite tracks as carrying a melancholy feeling while remaining moving and driving with a sense of nostalgia. His entry into the scene began with songwriting rather than performing until Mike Towers suggested they collaborate as artists. After working with friends including Natone Vega, he decided to create his own album, resulting in the new project titled Hermoso.

I feel like in Latin music, you can push boundaries a lot more and do things that are a little bit more interesting. And, you know, a lot of my favorite Latin music has like almost like a melancholy feeling to it, but it's still like moving and driving. And there's like a nostalgia. And I was really bored recently with like pop music. And so I was just making Latin music, not as an artist, just like on songs. And then, you know, Mike Towers was kind of the first guy who was like, yo, let's do one together as an artist. So then we did that. And then, yeah, I was fortunate enough to work with so many artists and like Natone Vega and like all these people. So I was just sitting there and I was like, man, I might as well just make one myself. So I started doing it and I was like, I wonder who I'll get on it. And I just asked all my friends and it just like felt comfortable and natural and yeah.
