A young guy wakes up in a bedroom covered wall to wall in superhero posters. Everything from Wolverine to Spider-Man. When he walks into the kitchen, something immediately feels off. No food on the counter, tap water still running with nobody around. He calls out for his mom and gets nothing back. He yells again and still silence, until he catches sight of shadowy figures lurking just around the corner. He leaves a note saying he'll call after school and heads outside. Things only get stranger out there. A dog caller sits abandoned on the sidewalk with no dog anywhere in sight. After walking for a bit, he spots a group of people and finally exhales with relief. But the second he glances away and looks back, they've all vanished completely. He makes it to school and his girlfriend rushes up asking why he never returned her calls. He starts to explain he doesn't have a phone, but she's already stopped listening because her skin is beginning to melt right off her face. He grabs her and screams that this is his fault as she dissolves completely in his arms. He looks up just in time to watch hundreds of his classmates blink out of existence one by one. Time jumps forward. Wolverine is tracking something through the wilderness, following a trail straight into a cave. He strikes a match to light his way as a voice screams from the darkness, warning him to back off, or he's dead. Logan just cracks a beer sits down and waits Eventually the boy steps out of the shadows When the kid says he looks familiar Wolverine tells him yeah he a world mutant then casually offers him a drink and mentions his healing factor makes him immune to whatever in the air He tells the boy, the X-Men sent him. The boy whispers that he's a mutant too. Logan says, yeah. So the kid asks if it was him, whether he killed his parents. Logan says, yeah. The boy starts spiraling, saying all those people died because of him, because of what he is. He demands to know how many people he killed. Wolverine tells him he doesn't want that number. The kid keeps pushing until Logan finally admits it could be north of 265 people. The boy breaks down, asking how any of this was even possible. Wolverine pulls out a file explaining that his mutation releases toxins that vaporize all organic matter within range. The boy asks if that's all he is now, just someone who destroys everything breathing near him. Logan takes a long, slow sip and tells him plainly, It's just bad luck. The kid says he can't go on living this way. Logan quietly replies that he knows. With tears pouring down his face, the boy starts talking about the future he had pictured for himself. Wolverine just sits there and listens without a word. Finally, Logan tells him he's sorry, then explains that the world can never find out a mutant was behind this, because if humans ever learned the truth, it would mean the end for every single one of them. Wolverine finishes his beer, gives the boy one last look, and tells him to finish his drink. The final image is Logan walking out of that cave completely alone.
