Will Smith on Live Kelly and Ryan calls himself the most famous broke man in America before The Fresh Prince. He says the IRS took everything because he felt they needed their money, not because he tried to avoid paying taxes. He compares getting in trouble with Uncle Sam to his character's trouble with Uncle Phil during the period Quincy found him.

IRS they money okay I didn't necessarily forget right I didn't send them their money and you know they wanted it they wanted you want they wanted they like it so they came to get their money yeah and they and I didn't have it so they took everything yeah it was that it was that period in my life that Quincy Quincy found me yeah that it's it was before before the internet was huge so you don't know all of those things about me.
