Angela Bassett performance as Tina Turner
by Joycelpacheco: Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett killed it in this film. Never witnessed acting like that before. Plus, I was genuinely terrified of Ike growing up, so seeing her portrayal hit different.

Tina and her husband grapple with each other. After all these years of marriage, this is the first time she fights back. She scratches her husband's face. Tina does not stop. She punches her husband in the face again. Her husband hits her right back. After years of abuse, Tina finally beats her husband until he cries like a child. Afterward, they arrive at a hotel, both a mess. Tina steps up to the bathroom mirror. She sees her face covered in injuries. This time, she is determined to leave her husband. She will no longer endure it in silence. She runs out of the hotel without looking back. For herself and for freedom, she will no longer be controlled by that demon husband. But right now, she does not have a penny to her name. But if you would give me a room, I swear, I will pay you back. The manager stares at Tina in disbelief. He never imagined a famous singer could be broke. That won't be necessary. Now, Ms. Turner, I'd be honored, really. We'll take care of you. Thank you. Let's give Ms. Turner a room. A few months later, Tina and her husband go to court. Afraid of losing the money, her husband gives the judge every excuse he can. He even accuses Tina of wasting all his money.
