Trader Mayne on crypto trading difficulty
Trader Mayne pushes back on the idea that past traders were competing against plumbers, arguing the landscape has shifted rather than intensified. He notes the game is different now with new landmines like the president launching a meme coin and the Clarity Act attempting to pass in Congress or the Senate, while past eras had their own hurdles. Back in 2014 and 2017, there was a smaller pool of assets and people since crypto was novel then. Mayne maintains that neither era is objectively harder; those who lose money today would have lost back then, but skilled traders today would have adapted to the conditions of the past. He points out that people still active from prior days are already rich, proving they are good at what they do. Ultimately, he personally thinks it's easier to trade Bitcoin, ETH, Solana, HYPE now with leverage than it ever was.

The game's different. You guys have landmines we didn't have to deal with. We had landmines you didn't have to deal with. There was a smaller pool of assets and a smaller pool of people back then. Like crypto was novel back in 2014. 2017 is novel. The president has launched a meme coin. We have the Clarity Act, you know, attempting to get passed in the Senate or Congress, wherever it is at this point. It's just different. You know what I mean? So I don't think one is harder than the other because the same people who lost money today, I think would lose money back then. And I think people who are really good today would have adapted to the game back in the day. And the people who are still around now from the prior days are already rich. So clearly they're pretty good at what they're doing or they're still able to make money now. I personally think it's easier to trade Bitcoin, ETH, Solana hype now with leverage than it ever was.
