USS Peleliu RIMPAC sinking exercise
The USS Peleliu, a nearly 40,000-ton ship, was sunk during a RIMPAC sinking exercise after coordinated multi-nation strikes. Submarine-launched Harpoon missiles and weapons from Spanish, Japanese, and other allied forces hit the vessel. For the first time, a U.S. Navy kamikaze unmanned surface vessel was used against a large warship in a SINKEX. The role of unmanned systems in anti-ship warfare is getting more attention.
