Harry Potter Hagrid double Martin Bayfield

Most Harry Potter shots of Hagrid are Robbie Coltrane, but not all of them. For wide frames where he needed to look extra massive, 6'10" rugby player Martin Bayfield stepped in wearing a giant Hagrid suit and prosthetic head. Coltrane still handled other scenes, with forced perspective, oversized props, and scaled sets doing the heavy lifting. The switch was so smooth that viewers rarely clocked it. Over the films, Bayfield's animatronic Hagrid head leveled up too, gaining blinking eyes and lips that moved in sync with dialogue.
