Byron Donalds went on Fox News and made clear property taxes are getting gutted if he’s governor, no matter what voters do with Amendment 3 this November. He said the amendment lifts homestead exemptions to $150,000 next year then $250,000 the year after, but he’s not banking on it passing. Florida property taxes have doubled in six years and he’s framing that as a crisis that needs fixing now. If the amendment fails, he’ll resurrect it and meanwhile deploy the Tax and Budget Reform Commission to dig into every property tax and fee on the books. The endgame is either a full wipe of homestead property taxes or serious relief aimed at seniors on fixed incomes and young working families trying to build something in Florida

Well, what it would do is raise our homestead exemptions to 150,000 next year and 250,000 the year after that. Listen, property taxes have increased in our state. They've doubled over the last six years. And so our people do need relief. And so we have to find ways to provide that relief. This amendment does that. I'll support it, but it's in the hands of the voters right now. Whether it passes or fails this November, we're going to bring it back as governor. we're going to use the Tax and Budget Reform Commission to study property taxes in our state and all fees in our state and come up with solutions for either fully repealing homestead property taxes or making sure that our seniors on fixed income and our young working families have real relief so they can enjoy the Florida dream and build that dream for themselves.
