It's considering requiring some green card applicants to post a refundable $100,000 bond to demonstrate financial self-sufficiency. Senior foreign policy correspondent Jillian Turner has details tonight live from the State Department. Good evening, Jillian. Good evening to you, Brett. The State Department right now is considering a new immigration policy that would require any foreigners who would like to immigrate to the United States to be financially self-sufficient. Those are their words. They would have to prove this up front with a $100,000 payment in the form of a bond. The State Department says that this potential requirement would, quote, restore the basic expectation that immigrants to the U.S. should contribute to our society more than they take from it and protect American public benefits programs from the financial burden of foreigners who arrive with major expensive medical or other needs. It's not clear when immigrants would get their money back, but foreigners coming to the U both legally and illegally and receiving government benefits is a theme the president has returned to many times during his second term They came in thousands and thousands, came by caravan, and many murders were in these caravans to stop the massive theft of taxpayer dollars, including by the millions and millions. 130,000 foreigners in the U.S. illegally have reportedly left the country voluntarily during the president's second term. So far, this happening under a program that's called Project Homecoming. It remunerates foreigners who choose to self-deport. We'll provide the travel for them, and like I said, we'll give them $2,100 roughly to go back home. We want the individuals to be repatriated to their country. Maybe they can go back there and help restore their country.
