How miserable can a child from a blended family really be? Jack only threw away an empty sauce bottle without thinking, but his stepfather picked it up and slammed it against his face. Is it empty? Huh? No. Good. All right. Now clean it out. When Jack tried to object to his unreasonable demand, all he got in return was another slap. Jack was completely pushed over the edge, but in the end, he was still beaten badly by his stepfather. That fight nearly cost him his life. In Jack's eyes, his stepfather was the devil living inside their home. Even something as small as forgetting to put the toothpaste cap back on could become a reason for him to lash out. But Jack's mother Annie was powerless to stop it. I'm gonna make this marriage work. I won't join in any fights. I won't even raise my voice. Yet Annie wasn't always like this. After divorcing her husband, her ex-husband took away their oldest son and soon disappeared without a trace, leaving Annie to raise Jack alone. She drove with him all the way to Utah, hoping the exploration equipment she carried could help her find oil deposits and finally give them a better life. Annie walked into a local laboratory with her equipment, only to be met with a cold and mocking response. The usually optimistic Annie simply threw the device away, but she never expected their old car would suddenly break down, leaving the mother and son with no choice but to rent a place and settle there temporarily. Jack secretly made up his mind. He would study harder and stop making his mother worry about him. But only a few days after starting school, Jack was called home because he accidentally broke a classroom window. You broke their stupid windows Help please Oh gee thanks a lot Believe them instead of me If you care anything about me at all you just be quiet Oh yeah if you cared anything about me you would have stayed married to Dad When he returned home, Annie lay on the bed without saying a word. Jack finally realized he had made a mistake. He was always blaming the only family member he had left. So he quietly prepared dinner, then sat beside her and waited in silence until his mother slowly woke up. But instead of blaming him, Annie felt nothing but guilt. She believed she had failed to give Jack a complete family, to give her son a more stable life. Annie tried to start a relationship with another man. The man gave Jack a hunting rifle as a gift. The new toy immediately fascinated him. He excitedly returned to his room and played with it, but he had no idea. This man had hidden intentions toward Annie from the very beginning. Annie never liked him, but for her son's future, she could only surrender to reality. Listening to the muffled yet disturbing sounds coming from outside, The hunting rifle in Jack's hands suddenly felt unbearably heavy, and all his excitement disappeared instantly. He often came to town, alone, standing silently on the street corner for a long time, watching unfamiliar men passing by. He imagined every stranger walking past him as if they were his father. Only by losing himself in these fantasies could Jack piece together the image of a complete family and briefly escape the loneliness and pressure of reality. But reality kept disappointing him again and again. Annie quickly saw through the man's true nature, and she refused to endure the suffocating relationship any longer. She immediately decided to leave. When Jack heard his mother's decision, he wasn't surprised at all. After years of constantly moving around, he had already grown used to his mother's sudden escapes. The mother and son began their journey to Seattle. Neither of them could have imagined that this rushed trip to Seattle would become the beginning of Jack's nightmare that followed.
