According to historian Toynbee, who spent three decades studying 26 civilizations, societies don't typically fall to external forces. Instead, civilizations perish from within through self-destruction. Their rise often begins with a creative minority solving tough problems and earning public loyalty. However, this group can become a ruling minority that relies on force and routine, losing its ability to lead. This disengagement creates a societal schism, and any external threats merely complete an internal collapse.
